Who we are

SiteData operates the SiteData browser extension and the services at sitedata.dev. This policy explains how the extension collects, uses, stores, and shares data. Contact support@sitedata.dev with privacy questions or requests.

What the extension does

SiteData helps you research websites through a Side Panel with traffic, keyword, domain, and advertising insights. It adds website metrics to Google search results, shows traffic information in the browser toolbar, and lets you capture the current page or Side Panel. You can sign in for account and membership features and choose to use affiliate sharing.

Data we collect

  • Account and identity data. If you sign in, the extension reads your SiteData account information from sitedata.dev, including your email address, account UUID, and membership status. It stores login state in browser extension storage and exchanges account identifiers and membership information with SiteData services to recognize your account and provide the features available to it. The extension also creates a separate persistent installation client ID in chrome.storage.local, including when you are not signed in.
  • Current website and browsing data. The extension reads the URL and domain of the active tab to show the current site's analysis and toolbar badge. This can happen when the extension opens, when you navigate, or when you switch tabs; it does not depend on pressing an Analyze button. Requests for analysis or toolbar data can send the domain and account identifier to SiteData services. On Google search results pages, the extension reads search terms and result entries to add website metrics.
  • Website content and screenshots. When you choose to capture a screenshot, the extension reads the visible content of the current page or Side Panel and creates the image in your browser. You can copy or download the result. The screenshot feature does not upload the captured image to SiteData. The extension also reads relevant page content for supported website analysis, search result enhancements, and user-initiated actions on supported third-party tool pages.
  • Analysis queries. The extension sends domains, keywords, Publisher or AdSense IDs, advertiser queries, and related request parameters to SiteData services when needed to return analysis results. Some queries are triggered by visible extension features, including the toolbar badge, rather than a separate search submission. Results and recent query data can be cached in browser storage.
  • Operational and diagnostic data. On installation, update, browser startup, and later extension loads, the extension sends a load record to api.sitedata.dev containing its installation client ID, extension version, event source, and date. Signed-in use can also create login and membership records associated with an account UUID and browser type. When an extension request receives HTTP 403 or 429, a diagnostic report can be sent to Alibaba Cloud Simple Log Service (SLS) containing the request URL, status code, installation client ID, account UUID if signed in, and time. Request URLs can themselves contain query values and identifiers. SiteData servers and their hosting providers can also receive standard connection data such as IP address, request time, and browser information when the extension makes a request. These records are not anonymous.
  • Affiliate activity. When you use affiliate sharing, the extension can request your affiliate link from sitedata.dev using your account identifier and copy the link or sharing text when you click the corresponding control. The extension does not silently replace the page URL or set affiliate cookies in the background.
  • Browser storage. The extension uses chrome.storage.local for account state, the installation client ID, caches, and operational state, and chrome.storage.sync for certain settings, including toolbar and search-result preferences. Browser sync behavior depends on your browser settings. Data sent for account, analysis, and diagnostics leaves your device as described above.

How we use data

We use website and query data to show Side Panel, toolbar, and search-result insights; account data to sign you in and determine membership access; browser storage to remember settings and reduce repeat requests; load and error records to measure whether the extension works and diagnose access or rate-limit failures; and affiliate information to provide a sharing action you choose. We do not sell extension user data, use it for personalized or interest-based advertising, or use it to determine credit eligibility.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

We use data obtained through extension permissions only to provide or improve the extension's disclosed website research features and their related security, reliability, and operational functions. We do not allow people to read user data except with your explicit consent for specific support, when required for security or legal compliance, or when data has been aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.

SiteData does not send extension analysis queries to third-party data suppliers; those queries are handled by SiteData services. Google Trends receives the parameters shown above only when you use its view.

We transfer extension user data only when needed to provide or improve these features, comply with law, protect against fraud or abuse, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale after obtaining your explicit prior consent. We do not transfer extension user data to data brokers or advertising networks.

Permissions

  • sidePanel: Display the SiteData analysis interface.
  • activeTab: Access the active page for actions you initiate, including analysis and screenshots.
  • scripting: Run code needed for screenshots, Google search-result metrics, and user-initiated form filling on supported tool pages.
  • storage and unlimitedStorage: Keep account state, settings, installation and diagnostic state, and cached analysis results.
  • clipboardWrite: Copy a screenshot or affiliate sharing text after you click a copy control.
  • Host access to <all_urls>: Read the active website for automatic toolbar and Side Panel analysis, provide search-result enhancements, and support screenshots across websites. Access to only a user-clicked activeTab would not support automatic badge updates when tabs change or content scripts on supported pages.

Security

The extension uses HTTPS for requests to SiteData services and the diagnostic service. Some existing requests include identifiers or query values in HTTPS URLs; those URLs can be recorded in service and access logs. We restrict data use to the purposes described here and work to limit access to account and diagnostic records. Browser-stored data is subject to your browser and device security settings.

Retention

Settings, cached results, and the installation client ID remain in browser extension storage until you clear the relevant browser data or uninstall the extension; settings stored in chrome.storage.sync may also be subject to browser sync. Account and membership records remain while your account is active and afterward only as needed for applicable legal, accounting, security, or dispute-resolution obligations. Extension load records, login logs, and SLS error logs are retained for 30 days. Analysis requests can also appear in service access logs; contact support@sitedata.dev for the retention period applicable to those records.

Your choices

You can change supported toolbar and search-result preferences in the extension settings. You can clear extension data through your browser's extension storage controls or uninstall the extension to remove its local data from that browser. You can request access to or deletion of server-held account data by contacting support@sitedata.dev. Browser sync copies and records retained for legal or security reasons may require separate handling. The current extension does not provide an analytics opt-out switch or a search-history disable switch.

Children's privacy

The extension is not designed for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and address the request.

Changes

When this policy changes, we will post the revised text here and update the date above. Material changes to extension data practices will also be disclosed in the extension as required before the new handling begins.
